Head2Head Brown Jabberwocks face off against BYU Noteworthy in a battle of the sexes to see who can take home the title for best cover of “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing.” It’s a close one!Spit Loud Marty Gasper breathes cool.
Song Suggestion Christopher’s love is “My Love” by the Bird and the Bee.
Don’t Quit Your Day Job Dance beats where they don’t belong… what is this??
We’re So Excited! Listen to this sneak peek of the still-unreleased FIREDRILL ALBUM! Zombie Christopher is wetting his pants.
Album Review Off the Beat hasn’t changed since 1929.
(Edit: We’ve received some enquiries about the clips played during Dave’s Final Thought on this show about female a cappella. Our keen-eared listeners noticed that the first one was from our recent “Don’t Quit Your Day Job” segment, which means we won’t reveal the identity of the group. But the second one we’re proud to say was “Apologize” from BYU Noteworthy’s recent album Green Means Go.)

You guys are just so stinking awesome… love it.
Much love for Marty Gasper! He’s working on some of our tracks for our upcoming first album… right now…
Another great show, guys! Keep up the good work.
I am totally going to arrange that song for you Chris!
Fantastic, Shane! Christopher will open mouth kiss you. –Dave
PS — If you ever record it, send us a copy and I promise that we’ll play it on the show.
The Red States are actually already in the process of arranging it. One of our guys brought the song in a few months ago and we all liked it.
Awesome, Brad. You can have a kiss too.
But honestly, to you and anyone — if you send us a copy we’ll play it on the show.
Hey guys! Love the show–very addictive and always prescient.
Although I understood a lot of the criticisms in your OTB review, I didn’t quite understand the critique on their use of the snare sound. It seems to me that in a vast majority of pop music written in 4/4, there are snare hits on beats 2 and 4 of any given measure, and I’ve heard a lot of groups other than OTB capitalize on this to the same extent. I guess I’m just saying I missed the point. Are you advising a cappella groups to look for alternatives to the snare?
Good question, Ryan!
Stylistically, I agree- you’re totally right about the placement of the snare drum. What I’m hoping for is a new snare drum sound. OTB has been using that same inward sounding snare since literally the early 90′s, and it’s an outdated and stylistically inappropriate sound to my ear. That’s why I love when songs like “Monsters” use handclaps and other sounds that are less stubborn and boring.
Hope that clears up my point! Thanks so much for listening and commenting, we really appreciate it!

Can you guys tell me the name of the group you used for Apologize towards the end of the show?
Certainly, Nathan. That version of “Apologize” right at the end of the show was performed by BYU Noteworthy. It’s off their album Green Means Go. They’re at http://www.noteworthyladies.com.
