Cool Chord of the Week Cadence’s version of the hit song “True Colors” is supremely touching, complete with 6ths and 9ths, and they do it all with only four voices.
Listener Mailbag Listeners are writing in, calling in, posting, reviewing, commenting, you name it. Album Review Straight No Chaser’s latest album With a Twist cracked the 22-year-old a cappella glass ceiling. How did Deke and Atlantic Records* and SNC do it? Dave and Christopher offer many thoughts on this question, and consider why aca-fans should rejoice, even if the album itself is a bit underwhelming.
*During the episode, we said that Sony was the record label, when in fact it was Atlantic, which is a division of Warner Records. Apologies for the misinformation.

For the record, Peter Hollens flaked out and did not take my dance class. He got scared of the rain. Womp to that.
Thanks for the SNC review…
You guys rock!
*small note: the guys are signed on Atlantic, not Sony.
Hey guys! I just heard about Dave’s love for Cadence…me too! There isn’t a single moment of their last album I don’t absolutely love! I thought you might enjoy something I found while “AcaTubing” the other day. (AcaTubing is surfing YouTube for anything acappella). This young guy, David Fong, and his brother did a multi-track recording of “Hit That Jive Jack.” Excellent job and fun for Cadence fans! He only put it up in January (where’ve I been?!) Enjoy it here at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98ioW64HDSI
Sarah: Thanks for the correction!
Uh… you also said that Rutgers Deep Treble was an all-female group. They’re co-ed.
Hey guys, I’ve spent the last two weeks listening to your show starting with the first episode and I recognized, that it’s about a century ago since you last used your segment “Don’t quit your dayjob”.
If you don’t find any material I could send you some tracks of the very first recording from my band singing the worst english with german accent you’ll ever hear.
I love your show and I am telling everyone about it.
You are very not terrible.
Thanks for the kind words about my being one of the more active members. I am honored and humbled.
Your thoughts are spot on about the SNC album. While the album did feel like an “album of the greatest acappella covers from the last couple decades,” it was essential that it was what it was for the general public. It had to be this for the non-acappella community to begin to accept it. A friend recently told me, “If you listen to music that sounds like instruments, why not just use instruments?” The public doesn’t get it. This album is a seed that will hopefully start the growth to happen.
I did find it funny that Deke said a few years ago, “If I put Fix You on the next BOCA album, will people stop covering it?” Then He put Fix You on this album, LOL. But that goes to show you the album is NOT primarily for the acappella community.
Just for the record I had no way to get there because my friends I was staying with Carmen and Leo were feeling under the weather… not that I didn’t want to come!!!! PROMISE!!
also you two are the sweetest in the world. Diego, raincheck on the dancing.
