(Editor’s note: In the show we mistakenly said that Jonathan Wong was the former MD of the Cornell Chordials, when in fact he was the MD of Cornell Last Call.)

Sexypella Carolina Tar Heel Voices performing “Secret” off of Would You? makes Christopher SWEATT.

High School Focus Kettering High School’s Eleventh Hour is leading the charge in the high school a cappella world.  “Go Their Own Way” off their 2008 album Evolution has some tasty solos hanging over a thoughtful arrangement.  Recruit them now!

The Good Ol’ Days Christopher’s first EVER a cappella experience was “I’m Your Baby Tonight” by the Tufts Amalgamates featured on BOCA 2001.  That’s like 1965 in a cappella years.

Spit Loud Who is beatboxing in this LL Cool J song “Hush”??  See the comments section of this post for the answer.

Album Review Six13’s 2008 album Yesh Chadash is ready for the radio (especially in New York).

Jonathan was actually not in the Cornell Chordials, but was formerly the musical director for Cornell University’s Last Call. Track is bomb as fuck though regardless of Christopher’s error :-)
I just wanted to make that correction here.

  • admin on June 21st, 2009

Oops — That was my fault, not Christopher’s… a typo in the show notes. I knew he and Tat were in Last Call, but typed the Chordials by mistake!

Thanks for the correction. I’ll make a note of it in the post itself.

also, as to your “spit loud” question, i believe it was paul bushnell who did the beatboxing for “hush”

Loving this and the past episodes of the show guys! Gotta say, I’m glad someone else thought that Six13 clip reminded you of Firedrill! – when I first popped it in my CD player and it got to that track, I thought they were covering the same song? Or maybe Firedrill! got turned on by mistake? haha. Also – Just had to say I totally agree with Christopher’s final comment on So You Think You Can Dance. Looking foward to many more shows!!!

First off: Ted, Firedrill! never gets “turned on by mistake.”

Second: Really Chris? So You Think You Can dance? Really? You probably watch Jon and Kate Plus 8 too…

    Third: Love the podcast.

whoa, whoa, wait. why has no one said anything about that snare in the Hyannis Sound clip?! i’m calling john clark. right now. wow.

Did I hear you right that you don’t like Josh Groban? I am glad I am not the only one then. Also, in response to what Dave said about Jews not being familiar with acappella; If I understand correctly, Jewish worship is acappella. So, they would all be familiar with acappella. But, many would probably not be familiar with acappella in this form, so that would be very fresh and exciting for many.

Super thanks to Dave for writing THV’s name correctly! So often don’t see that.

And: The best tune is the jazz-infused ballad Im Eshkachech. Featuring guest vocalist Michael Frieland, the song is reminiscent of Martin Sexton’s Can’t Stop Thinking About You as performed by Firedrill!.

Funny story, Tekay— we reviewed the Six13 album a few months ago for a practice show before both our show went live and your review went up. When I read through your review, I was pretty stunned that we heard EXACTLY the same thing in it- great minds think alike, I suppose :)

“whoa, whoa, wait. why has no one said anything about that snare in the Hyannis Sound clip?! i’m calling john clark. right now. wow.”

I can tell you all about it if you want (I mixed it).
